Oftentimes, the obsolete, outdated and aesthetically imperfect supply store rejects end up not being sellable by corporate chain stores. That’s where Gary Leneskie comes in, as his new store, Tri-State Surplus Sales, purchases and collects many types of furniture and equipment, and re-sells them at a price marked marginally lower than would be found at one of these department stores. “We’ve got a contract with Lowe’s stores, and we take all their scratched and dented,” Leneskie, general manager of Tri-State Surplus, said. “These are all brand-new, still have the manufacturer warranty, but here’s the difference; our price, 25 percent down.” Items on sale at Tri-State Surplus include everything from washers and dryers to kitchen appliances to mattresses to windows, and every item displays a price lower than the rate of its original selling location. “If it’s got a scratch or a little ding in it,” Leneskie said. “By their standards, they can’t sell it to the general public.” Leneskie said the items come from Lowe’s, as well as some other department stores, which he purchases from at a discount because of the cosmetic condition of the supply. “We buy them at a rate because we buy them by the full truckload,” ...
